The longest series they've done with their character was called "Power of Shazam." As far as I can tell, they've never published a "Captain Marvel" comic since they sued the character away from Fawcett. So there is no way Carol's series is the reason DC isn't doing a Captain Marvel series, 'cause they'd call it Shazam anyways.
They have to call it SHAZAM (or something else) because Marvel owns the trademark on CAPTAIN MARVEL. DC cannot publish a book with that title.
