iinviicta asked: Whether it's at marvel alone, or the comics world in general, do you think that the element of romance plays a prominent enough role in comics of this decade? If not, why do you think so? I know there are a few that that throw it in your face but let it simmer behind events but I can't help but feel like it isn't a priority. Moreover, I cant really tell what is.(Sorry I'm starting to notice my questions come out very essay prompty)
I think it’s an element that could and probably should play a greater role in what we do—because when done well, it’s always a popular and relatable element to an audience. Every reader has and will experience romantic situations within their own lives.
I think perhaps it’s been the rise of shorter-form runs on titles, in addition to the expansion of the character-lines and the consideration of books as individual collections rather than serial individual issues that has somewhat influenced this change. Or maybe it’s simply not where the attentions of our current crop of creators have been for the most part. Certainly there are series that do this, but I do feel like there could be more of them.
